Pupil & Sports Premium

Pupil Premium Statement

The pupil premium is an opportunity to narrow the gap in achievement

between disadvantaged pupils and their peers

Background:

The Pupil Premium is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and children who come from Services families. This will also include pupils eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families. We are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium. This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium and the extra support.

There is also a small amount of funding to provide additional, targeted support for those children and young people who need the most help. This spending information can be found on our Pupil Premium funding plan.

Allocation of the grant is based on the number of pupils with the entitlement at the time of the October census.

PE/Sports Premium

The Sports Premium Funding is a government initiative aimed at improving physical education (PE) and sports provision in primary schools across the United Kingdom. The funding is provided to help schools develop and enhance their sports programs, with the aim of improving the health, fitness, and well-being of children. According to the UK government, research shows that physical activity can improve academic performance, attendance, and behaviour in school. Therefore, the Sports Premium Funding provides schools with the opportunity to invest in sports equipment, hire sports coaches, and provide training for teachers to deliver high-quality physical education.

At our school, we plan to use the Sports Premium Funding to improve the quality of our PE and sports provision. We will invest in new sports equipment to ensure that our pupils have access to a wide range of activities and equipment. We will also hire a specialist sports coach to work with our teachers to improve their knowledge and delivery of PE lessons. In addition, we will provide training for our teachers to help them deliver high-quality physical education lessons that engage all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

According to the Government, the Sports Premium Funding has had a positive impact on primary school pupils’ physical education and sports participation. In the academic year 2019-2020, 81% of pupils in primary schools reported participating in at least one after-school sports club. Furthermore, 76% of pupils reported enjoying PE and sports lessons, and 77% of teachers reported an improvement in their pupils’ fitness levels. Therefore, we are confident that the Sports Premium Funding will enable us to improve the quality of our sports provision and have a positive impact on the health and well-being of our pupils.
