For those who may not be familiar with me, my name is Mrs. Tasha Hughes, and I am responsible for leading the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision at Golcar JIN School. It is important to note that children with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) receive priority admission to the school. In my role, I work closely with parents, teachers, health services, and various external agencies to ensure that children requiring additional support make progress and achieve their potential. I prioritize collaboration with parents and carers, providing them with essential information and ensuring they feel involved in the decision-making processes regarding their child’s education.
I am responsible for ensuring that appropriate additional provisions are implemented for those who require support, and I monitor the effectiveness of these interventions to confirm that all children are making progress and achieving their full potential. The support required may vary; some children may need short-term assistance to close gaps in their learning, while others may require long-term support due to medical, developmental, or emotional needs.
All members of our school staff contribute to supporting pupils with individual needs. This includes the administrative team, who arrange and confirm meetings with parents and professionals; lunchtime supervisors, who adapt lunch breaks to meet the needs of the pupils in their care; and both teaching and non-teaching staff, who plan, implement, and review provisions. Our SEND team extends beyond our staff to include professionals such as school nurses, emotional well-being support workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, outreach workers, educational psychologists, and the SEN commissioning team.

My role involves working closely with parents, teachers, health services and a range of outside agencies to ensure that children needing additional support make progress and reach their potential. I work closely with parents/carers, providing them with information and ensuring they feel involved in making decisions about their child’s education.
I ensure that additional provision is in place for those who need it and monitor the impact of this to ensure all children are making progress and achieving to their full potential.
